Melissa Luna Brett

My name is Melissa, but just about everybody calls me Luna. I recently finished my masters degree at Portland State University, in Oregon. I managed to simultaneously earn my Master's Degree in Geology, and a Graduate GIS Certificate, while at PSU. I'm currently working for the New Mexico Bureau of Geology as a Specialist GIS Technician & Geologic Illustrator. I am thrilled to be using all of my degrees and skills to serve the state and my community, and I am excited to be working at the confluence of Geology, GIS, Graphic Design and Science Communication. Nothing could be more exciting!!

My first undergraduate research experience was mapping rhyolite clasts from the Mount Rogers Formation in Southwest Virginia. This project was funded by the USGS EDMAP Program, and really gave me the field skills I needed to start becoming a successful geoscientist.

I was very fortunate to have the opportunity to participate in the 2014 Juneau Icefield Research Program, for my summer field camp experience. This 8 week long glaciology/geology field camp began in Juneau, Alaska, and ended in Atlin, British Columbia. This video highlights a few clips of the adventure!
